Skills Club

Liverpool Aimhigher supports 'Skills Clubs' for year 9 students from 9 schools in two collaboratives across the city. On Monday 5th December all those involved will be taking part in the first presentation ceremony Liverpool Hope University.

Students have experienced 3 hour sessions after school on two sites throughout this term :- PFL at Jaguar and NHS at Aintree Hosp. to give them an insight into the skills required to gain employment in local business. The Aimhigher Director Emy Onuara will be making an input to the ceremony.

Skills Clubs have been funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and are playing a key part in the regeneration of Liverpool.

Skills Club is a pilot project giving young people the opportunity to find out about real exciting job opportunities.

It has been a partnership bringing a wide range of organisations together including employers/the Local Education Authority/ Jaguar Education Business Centre/Connexions/the Youth University/Liverpool Compact and Aimhigher.

Since September 2005 Skills Clubs have operated after school at Aintree NHS Hospital in the north of the city and at the Partnership for Learning in the south.

Skills Clubs provide the opportunity for young people to find out about job opportunities which they never of heard about.

Its about going and seeing what its really like to work in a hospital, factory, airport or one of the many other locations.

The aim is to encourage young people and to make them aware that there are lots of new jobs emerging and many more that have not yet been invented!

Aimhigher Greater Merseyside has supported Skills Clubs as they are seen as a real chance for local young people to get on the ladder to success which involves progressing from school into further education, training or university.
