The schools visited the Department of Physics at the University of Liverpool to take part in a range of events that tested their science knowledge, team working and communication skills as they worked to achieve the highest scores on the day.

Activities included:

'Float Your Boat'
'Just in Time'
'Sweet Trader'
'Projectile Rocketing'.

The team from Belvedere Academy triumphed on the day and will be competing in the final with teams from all over Greater Merseyside for the Science Olympics title this summer.

Third place on the day were the team from Childwall and runners up in second place were the group from St Julie's.

David Painter, organiser of the Aimhigher Science Olympics and a physics graduate from The University of Liverpool explains:

"The day is aimed to help students learn and develop skills in a fun and interesting way. The competition is a way of making science more accessible. We hope that activities such as these will begin to spark an interest."
